Marlee Shaffer

Marlee Shaffer was a fifth-year PhD Candidate in Environmental Engineering in the GERM Lab at the University of Notre Dame. Prior to beginning her PhD, she pursued a BS in Environmental Engineering at the University at Buffalo. Since beginning her PhD at Notre Dame, Marlee has been involved with several projects pertaining to the viability of viruses in water, including norovirus and Lassa virus. She also worked on the COVID-19 wastewater based surveillance projects at Notre Dame and in the surrounding counties. Marlee’s research interests include viral pathogen detection and concentration, metagenomics sequencing, and water quality.
