Caroline Pitts

Caroline Pitts graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and English Literature. She joined the Achee-Grieco Laboratory in the Fall of 2019 and REDI-NET in the Spring of 2021. Within REDI-NET, Caroline developed comprehensive reports on the potential biohazards in Belize and Florida, contributed to tick imaging and identification on the Vectech IDX, and used REDI-NET procedures to identify pathogens of human interest in tick samples collected in the Corozal and Orange Walk Districts in Belize by the Belize Vector and Ecology Center (BVEC). Caroline was awarded an undergraduate research grant from the Eck Institute of Global Health and presented her work at the 2022 College of Science Joint Annual Meeting (Best Presentation Award) and The 2022 Ecological Society of America and Canadian Society for Ecology and Evolution Joint Annual Meeting.

Caroline was awarded a Naughton Fellowship to earn a Master of Public Health in International Health at University College Dublin where she studied the relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences and inflammatory biomarkers among Irish adults. In her current position as a Research Study Coordinator in the Center for Dissemination and Implementation Science at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, Caroline contributes to implementation science research projects and is interested in bridging the gap between public health knowledge and practice particularly as it relates to culturally appropriate interventions and mental health/substance use disorders.
