In late March, REDI-NET consortium members from the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC), the Walter Reed Bioinformatics Unit (WRBU), University of Arkansas (UADA), Notre Dame’s Center for Research Computing (CRC), and the Notre Dame laboratory team participated in a two day NGS Platform workshop. The main objectives of this workshop were:

  1. Align current automated analysis platform for the inclusion of water and/or blood-borne pathogens

  2. Discuss the appropriate approach for reporting and modeling risk for water and blood-borne pathogens

  3. Further optimization of the e-MERGE pipeline (from collection through analysis)

  4. Assure NGS Analysis Platform compliance with the CUI environment

Outcomes from the workshop include an acknowledgement the current automated pipeline can be configured to include other source type pathogens and an agreement will be made to standardize the confirmation and reporting of pathogens not included in the automated NGS platform.
